Son of Confederate Brigadier General Micah Jenkins, P.A.C.S., who was Mortally Wounded in May of 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia. He served in the Spanish American War, and enrolled as Captain of Troop K, 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, "The Rough Riders", he fought with the Regiment in Cuba and was present during the attack on San Juan Hill. He was promoted to Major of the Regiment on August 11th, 1898; and was mustered out of service with the Regimentat Montauck Point, Long Island, New York.
