Bio

Growing up in a relatively small town in New England, with an abundance of Early American cemeteries and graveyards, I became fascinated with the historical aspects of these cemeteries and graveyards.

Later, I developed a more personal interest in gravestone preservation through my genealogy research, when I located and then visited ancestral graves. The condition of some of the cemeteries, gravestones, and burial records, if they even still existed, was troubling and became a deep concern of mine. We have a responsibility to our ancestors to keep their legacy intact for future generations. I have a particular interest in preserving the graves of our veterans.

I have attended training in various aspects of gravestone preservation/conservation and have worked on some organized cemetery projects. I provide preservation consulting services to the St. Paul's Parish American Legion Post 145 in South Carolina. Though I tend to dedicate most of my efforts on conserving the headstones of our veterans, I will occasionally volunteer to work on projects for smaller rural cemeteries.

I have Master of Forensic Science Degree from The George Washington University, Washington, DC, and attended a Fellowship in Forensic Medicine at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Washington, DC. I have advanced training in Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Pathology, Forensic Document Examination and Forensic Light Source Techniques.

I am a member of The Association for Gravestone Studies (AGS), The Maine Old Cemetery Association, The NH Old Cemetery Association, along with historical societies in Springfield, NH and Sunapee, NH. Additionally, I am a member of the SC Historical Society, The Preservation Society of Charleston and the Edisto Island Historic Preservation Society.
