Graduated from Yale College in the class of 1823 and of the Theological Seminary of the Protestant Episcopal Church in New York, class of 1828. He was in charge of St. David's Church in Cheraw, South Carolina from 1828 to 1841, at which time he returned to his native city to take charge of St. John's Chapel, Hempstead, where he remained in the active discharge of his duties until shortly before his death. He was married at St. David's church in Cheraw, South Carolina on January 21, 1830.
