Donald Webster Bittinger, 76, U.S.
Navy Seabees (ret.) weighed his final
anchor and sailed off prior to sunrise
Tuesday, July 20, 2004. Born in
Terra Alta, W. Va, he was
predeceased by his wife, Helen, who
died Jan. 10, 1979 at the age of 59,
and his parents, Minnie (Messenger)
and Webster Alva Bittinger.
He retired after 30 years in the U.S.
Navy as a chief petty officer and was
a member of the Fleet Reserve and a
lifetime member of the National
Rifle Association. Bittinger enjoyed
hunting and fishing with his best
friend, Thomas "Pete" Peterson.
Survivors include a daughter,
Sandra Bulger of West Warwick, RI;
two sons, Frank Patnaude of
Odenton, MD. and Robert Patnaude
of Virginia Beach, VA.: four
grandchildren; four
great-randchildren ; and two aunts,
Mary Ellen Bittinger and Goldie
Bittinger, both of Uniontown, PA.
The body is being cremated. No
service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be sent to the American Cancer
Society, Perquimans County
