JOSEPH FITZGERALD
Services for Joseph A. Fitzgerald, 86, 904 Wood Street, who died at 12:35 am Sunday in Porter Memorial hospital after a short illness, will be held at 2 pm Tuesday in the Bartholomew Funeral home.
The Rev. Percy Thomas will officiate with burial in McCool cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today.
Born Feb. 3, 1878 in Rowan County, Ky., he was the son of Amos and Elizabeth (Baumgartner) Fitzgerald. He married Rutha Jane Stanfield, who preceded him in death in 1951.
Fitzgerald had resided in Valparaiso since 1918. He was employed by the US Steel Corporation, Gary, and was a retired employe of the McGill Manufacturing Company.
He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Thelma) Chester, Portage, Mrs. Theodore (Lena) Reinert, Hammond, Mrs. Donald (Merle) Ainsworth and Mrs. Ray (Hazel) Allison, both of Valparaiso.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Nola) Collins.
