DAVENPORT - Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Brian W. Carstens, Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a Prayer Service will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Brian died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport, from injuries he received after being struck by lightening on April 30, 2003, while camping with family and friends at Lacey State Park, Keosaugua, Iowa. He was born July 19, 1969, in Davenport, the son of Keith and Mary (Hartog) Carstens. Brian graduated from West High School in 1987 and then attended Scott Community College. He married Donna J. Yackle August 10, 1996, in Davenport. He was employed as a driver for Exide Corporation, Rock Island. His memberships include Duck's Unlimited and Holy Family Church. Brian was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to go hunting, fishing and camping. He often took adults and teens out hunting to achieve their first game. Brian was also an animal lover, he was especially fond of his long time companion, Bear, the dog he had for over 14 1/2 years. Brian had a great sense of humor and always had time for family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all that knew his friendly smile, caring attitude and kindness. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in Brian's name. Survivors include his wife, Donna; his parents, Keith and Mary Carstens, Davenport; a sister, Lynn Carstens, Davenport, a brother, Tim Carstens and his wife, Deana, Davenport; his grandmother, Geneva Carstens, Davenport; aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews and three great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, William Carstens; grandparents, Edna and Waldo Hartog; and his uncle and godfather, James Hartog.
