Brigitte Sieglinde (Schön) Bates, age 58, of Arlington, WA, passed away on September 28, 2007, at Swedish Medical Center. Born February 17, 1949 in Gelsenkirchen, West Germany, Brigitte moved with her family to Quebec, Canada in 1955 and then to Chicago Heights, IL in 1957. After 10 years in Chicago, most of her family then moved to Renton, WA where she graduated from Renton High School in 1969.
On June 27, 1970 she married the love of her live, Al "Tiger" Bates in Seattle, Washington, soon after they moved to Boulevard Park where they lived for more than 30 years.
On February 12, 1973 they celebrated the birth of their first son, Jason and then on November 22, 1976 they welcomed the birth of their second son, Kurt. March 4, 2000 after much anticipation she was finally an Oma after Kurt's wife Catrenia gave birth to Shelby. The birth of her granddaughter lifted her sprits after years of having to deal with various illnesses.
Brigitte was a loving wife, mother, oma, sister, aunt and friend. Her favorite activity was spending time in her sewing room making a variety of projects which included making quilts for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Family was very important to her and she loved to spend all the time she could with her loved ones.
Brigitte was preceded in death by her parents, Willi and Erika Schön; brother, Hans; and sister, Edie Baumann.
She is survived by her loving husband, Al, of Arlington; sons and their wives, Jason and Kathy Bates, of Puyallup, WA, and Kurt and Catrenia Bates, with only granddaughter, Shelby Lee Bates, of Arlington; sisters, Erika (Jim) Cox, of Buckley, WA, Karen (Andy) Evers, of Chicago, IL, Helga (Dean) LaFountain, of Arlington, and Irene (Chi) Diep, of Shoreline, WA; brothers, Willi (Muoi) Schön, of Puyallup, and Frank (Caroline Mollenberg) Schön, of Auburn, WA; and brother-in-law, Guenther Baumann, of Chicago, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Swedish Hospital ICU, Dr. Richard Stein and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America for all that they have done for Brigitte.
