FRANCISCO A. ALVAREZ, age 84, a lifelong resident of Gary, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014.
He is survived by loving wife of 65 years: Rosa; four children: Juanita (late Salvador) Rodriguez of Valparaiso, Carlos (Pamela) Alvarez of Portage, Francisco (Sylvia) Alvarez Jr. of Texas, and Alberto (Amelia) Alvarez of Demotte; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; great-great grandson. Preceded in death by son-in-law: Salvador Rodriguez; grandson: Salvador Rodriguez Jr.; great grandson: Adam Alvarez; great granddaughter: Tatiana J. Sain.
He was a a self-employed business owner of F&A Produce, Fruteria Alvarez, and El Norteno Restaurant, which were all located on 5th Avenue in Gary. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of the F&AM Lodge #595 of East Chicago.
He was a very loving and caring person, not just for his family, but his entire community. He helped to build churches in Mexico and donated supplies to build a church in Gary. He made sure that if anybody he knew wanted a college education, that they would be taken care of. He was the best boss his workers ever had.
He loved watching soccer, traveling , fishing, and having fun at the casinos, where he always seemed to have the "luck."
