Oscar Grant Atkinson, 80, of Portola, California, died Thursday, February 28, 1974, at Portola. He was a former resident of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and was a retired engineer with the Chicago and Eastern Illinois (C&EI) Railroad. Mr. Atkinson was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons, Howard Dale Atkinson, of Quing [sic; probably "Quincy"], California; Oscar Dean Atkinson, of Portola, California; and Col. Richard L. Atkinson, of Spokane, Washington; a brother, Harry Grant Atkinson, of Chicago; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

[Two now-deceased sons are likely the following:
• Howard Dale "Dale" Atkinson (b. about 1913, probably in Jefferson County or Marion County, Illinois; possibly Find A Grave # 92535644), northern California;
• Oscar Dean "Dean" Atkinson (b. about 1919, probably in Jefferson County or Marion County, Illinois; possibly Find A Grave # 30801930), northern California]
