Bobbie Jean Campbell Parsons passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 in Belk, Texas. A funeral service will be held at Belk United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, September 3, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Bobbie was born on March 5, 1932 to Katie Hunter Campbell and Daymon Campbell in Forest Chapel, Texas. She married her husband, Leo Parsons, on February 4, 1950 in Hugo, Oklahoma. Bobbie was a 1950 graduate and Class President of Chicota High School. She was a dedicated member of Belk United Methodist Church. Bobbie spent her life devoted to her family as a homemaker, as well as being a model public servant in many community associations and activities. Bobbie was a member and leader of United Methodist Women, League of Women Voters, Lamar County Democratic Party, Tejas Garden Club of Paris, Texas and Paris Council of Garden Clubs, Chicota High School PTA, School Board of Chicota, Garretts Bluff Community Center, Child Welfare Board of Lamar County, the American Red Cross, North Lamar Parish Vacation Bible School, as well as many other areas of service. She and her husband co-owned and operated The Dinner Bell Restaurant and Red River Valley Seed Farm. Bobbie was a leader and organizer in the Ann Richards Gubernatorial Campaign, one of her proudest efforts. Fabulous cook and maker of perfect fried chicken and pecan pies, Bobbie cooked for many at the annual Garretts Bluff 4th of July Chicken Fry. She provided full course meals from the trunk of her car to countless farm workers in the Chicota river bottom and served dessert and Blue Bell ice cream to almost every person who ever entered her home. She was remarkable. Survivors of Mrs. Parsons include her husband Leo Parsons; her three children and their spouses, JoAnna and Chuck Armstrong of Paris, Texas, Robert and Sherry Parsons of Taos, New Mexico, and Karen and Paul LaPier of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her grandchildren Michael Crabtree, Katharine Ashby, Zachary Nash, Ashley Rolshoven, and Marissa and Christina LaPier; her great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ava, and Colt; her brothers, Jimmy Campbell and wife Charlene, Jerry Campbell and wife Marie; her sister Judy Looney, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family would like to thank the members of the Belk community and the Belk United Methodist Church, caregivers Patty Slagle and Gina Farmer, Victor Foster, and Theo and Virginia Lenore for their help and support during times of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Bobbie Parsons to Belk United Methodist Church.
