LUBBOCK-Artavie Tad Bradley, 91, of Lubbock, passed away on Sept. 13, 2013.

Tad was born on April 29, 1922, to the parentage of Arthur and Mary Liza Johnson in Henderson, Texas; to this union, five children were born. She was raised and attended school in Tatum (Mayflower).

On Oct. 31, 1946, she joined L.K. Bradley in holy matrimony; to this union, eleven children were born. In 1950, the family moved to West Texas. Tad gave her life to Christ at an early age. Since 1956 she was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church and the New Zeal Baptist District Association. She served on the Usher Board, was Mission President, a Sunday school and B.T.U. teacher, as well as church secretary and treasurer. She served her community well and was known for her exceptional holiday cooking of sweet potatoes, peanut patties, and teacakes.

Artavie was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, L.K. Bradley Sr.; one brother, D'Arthur Johnson; three sisters, Early Mae McNeil, Inous Bell Lewis, and Martha King; three sons, Willie Bradley, L.J. Bradley, and Perrry Bradley; her daughter, DeLoris Dixon; granddaughter, DaNita Buckley; and grandson, Michael Dixon.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Ruby Buckley (Isiah), Earlean Shepherd, Mable Herby (Edward), Dessa Smith (Danny) and Sharron Hudson (Andrew); sons, L.K. Bradley Jr. and Donnie Bradley (Kim); 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church-family, and friends.

Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held today, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
