NOTED DUBLIN TEACHER FOR 35 YEARS
On Wednesday night last the immortal spirit of Susie W. Dasher passed from Earth. She died at her home on South Jefferson Street following an illness of several weeks duration. Mrs. Dasher was a native of Macon but came to Dublin in her early youth to teach in the Dublin School System, where she met J. M. Dasher, prominent business man and politician, and was married to him more than 40 years ago. In the passing, Laurens County, Georgia and the nation has lost a" Great Woman". She was a teacher by profession, and lived up to the highest standards of her calling. To define teaching as she practiced it; it means culture and refinement, as well as mental distinction. It means industrial greatness to annex nature to man's uses, and above all, to her it meant the love of God and all humanity.
All over these United States, on every war front, in every walk of life, young men and young women can be found, who will tell the world that all they are, all they ever hope to be, they owe a great part of the credit to Mrs. Susie W. Dasher.
She was a great church woman, local and national, and held some of the highest offices in the gift of the A.M.E. Church at the time of her death. She was also a great fraternal leader, and served in local and state offices of the leading fraternities for many years. She had just received a letter from the State Board of Education, giving great praise for her contributions to the schools of the state; and further advising that she would receive a pension for the rest of her life time beginning January 1, 1945, But the benefit came too late to compensate her for the 35 years of service rendered to the state and nation in the training of boys and girls. But those she had had to do with will carry on where she left off, and by so doing will keep living, one of the greatest names in the educational world in this state.
Among Survivors are her husband J.M. Dasher; one son J. M. Dasher Jr. of Dothan Alabama; one daughter Mrs. Sophronia Dasher Walker; one brother Prince White of New York; one granddaughter Miss Mary Ann Dasher of Durham, North Carolina, several Nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at the church she played a great part in helping to build, St. Paul A.M.E Church, Rowe Street at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The reverend Jim Hall will officiate, assisted by other ministers of the city. Interment will be made in the Old Dublin Cemetery in the family plot, where the Mother of the deceased rests. She was a member of the Laurens County Benevolent Association.

Susie White Dasher, one of Laurens County's most legendary educators. Mrs. Dasher, a native of Macon, Ga., attended Morehouse College, Fort Valley State College and graduated from Tuskeegee Institute Mrs. Dasher retired for over a decade to rear her two children. Mrs. Dasher began her career here as a first grade teacher at Telfair Street School in 1914. The school had just been relocated from the south side of Telfair Street just before its intersection with Smith Street to the corner of Taylor and Pritchett Streets. Mrs. Dasher took over as principal of the school in 1920 and made great improvements, such as adding lights and a lunchroom - making sure each child received one well balanced hot meal each day. Three years later she organized the first P.T.A. at the school, which raised money for needed equipment.
