In Memory Of
John Dasher
1873 ~ March 4, 1946

John Dasher affectionately known as "Bubber John" prominent and beloved Dublin Citizen died at his residence on South Jefferson Street Monday Evening. His passing comes to add grief to his family and hundreds of friends and acquaintances in both races. He was a native of Laurens County and spent his entire life here, where he operated a cafe in downtown Dublin until a few months ago when physical conditions made possible his retirement. During his business career he came in contact with and won the admiration of many folks in all walks of life, whom he served daily..
Mr. Dasher was active for more than fifty years in civic, political and fraternal advancement of his people in Laurens county and Georgia. He lived and died an ardent republican. He was a member of the central state committee of the Republican Party and was district chairman of the Republican Party at the time of his death. He was a good inspiration to the young Negro in providing his honesty and integrity in politics, that politics could be as clean as any other business operation. All of the postmasters of Dublin and the Sixth Congressional District, who held office under Republication administrations, received his endorsement, without ever having to pay any assessment to party or individual. He was closely connected with the late Henry Lincoln Johnson in politics and helped to give Dublin its first Negro letter carriers.
His life can be summed up in four words, "He Was a Man". He was a member of the First A.B. Church, where funeral rites will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment will be in the Old Cemetery. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Sophronia Walker, Dublin; one son, Dr. John M. Dasher Jr., Dothan Alabama; one sister, Mrs. Frances White, Dublin; two nieces; four nephews; one granddaughter, Mary Ann Dasher of Durham, North Carolina, and many other relatives and friends.
