Anthony "Tony" Salvati, 70, of Streator passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Bill Niebuhr will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his family and friends.
Born December 23, 1942 in Streator he was the son of Anthony and Geneva Mae (Wagher) Salvati.
He is survived by a sister, Domonica Ciaccio of Baltimore; nieces, Lori (Doug) Snell of Streator, Lita (Terry Gallion) Ciaccio of Baltimore, Luanne (Cono Bucolo) Ciaccio of Baltimore and Dawn Salvati of Bloomington; a nephew, Leonard Ciaccio of Baltimore; he had many great nieces and nephews and his first great great niece/nephew on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dominic G. "Satch" Salvati and Ralph Salvati; a sister, Lita Salvati; a nephew, Dominic A. "Dom" Salvati and an aunt Lula Lux.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Anthony's Grade School and graduated from Streator High School.
In Tony's younger years he was an avid reader and a self-taught man. He was active enjoying bike riding and belonging to the YMCA. He was close to his family, especially his nieces and nephews who he enjoyed intriguing with his many talents. He professed to be an atheist for many years until in 1983 when his reading of the Bible led him to a restored believing and trusting faith in Jesus. Having strong opinions in political matters and other subjects, he would always welcome an argument on these topics. Through the years Tony was entrepreneur and was involved in many different ventures. In the early 1970's he moved to Baltimore to be near his sister and her children. Later, as an avid pool player, he started his own pool league in Newport News, Virginia which after enjoying for years he sold and moved back to Streator to assist with his ailing parents. Once home, he continued to participate in local leagues. Tony was quiet and compassionate. He loved to make people laugh. He was always loved and enjoyed throughout his hometown of Streator, Illinois. He will be dearly missed.
