WALTHAM, VT. — George Brian Evarts, age 79, of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15th 2021 at his home.

He was born on November 16th 1941 in Burlington, Vt., he was the son of Raymond Stanley and Bridget (O'Brien) Evarts.

With his parents and siblings George grew up on the family farm in Waltham, Vt., where he also started his education in a one-room schoolhouse just down the road before transferring to Beeman Academy in New Haven, Vt. He graduated in 1960, and then attended Champlain College in Burlington, Vt.

It was while at college when George and his friends met with a group of friends of a young woman named Louise. They would soon join each other in marriage, being inseparable for 56 years. Together they built their home and started a family next to the family farm where George grew up, always within shouting distance of his brother; Terry.

He married Louise Marie Bilodeau on May 9th 1964 in Middlebury, Vermont. Together they had two sons.

George's employment included working as a teen at École Champlain summer camp in Ferrisburgh, Vt.

He later began his career of 47 years for the aerospace company in Vergennes, Vt. known by many names through acquisitions: Simmonds/Hercules/BF Goodrich/Goodrich. His position in the calibration lab was one that touched all segments of manufacturing, increasing greatly his number of lifelong friends.

In his spare time he applied his carpentry skills, constructing numerous garages that can be seen throughout northern Addison County.

George's service to the community included time as the Waltham Cemetery Commissioner, where he practiced the same landscaping meticulousness for which his own lawn was known. He also served as a Justice of the Peace and officiated in joining many couples in marriage.

He followed his favorite teams — the New York Giants, Dodgers, Red Wings and Celtics — with whom he shared the same emotions through every championship or error.

His passion for sports was displayed as a varsity high school athlete in baseball, and continued with his activity in Vergennes Little League for nearly a decade as a coach, fundraiser, and partnered builder of the Little League field in Vergennes, Vt. At home, George would be seen in the yard with his young sons playing catch and usually greeted young visitors with the question, "do you want to play some ball?"

George's excitement in life came from sports cars, especially love for Corvettes, which he shared with his mother and sister Jean, either by owning them or by just tracking them down on the web while on the phone. George would often be seen driving one of his convertibles with his inseparable passenger and partner, Louise.

George was predeceased by his parents, two sisters; Joann Mary Evarts on November 19th 2015 and Mary Louise "Weezie" (Evarts) Austin on September 23rd 2019, one sister-in-law; Lucille "Lucy" Charlene (Danyow) Evarts on March 18th 2021, and five brothers-in-law; Laval Joseph Bilodeau on April 22nd 2005, Gaston Lourea Bilodeau on January 26th 2012, Germain B. Bilodeau on October 6th 1986, Firmain Bioldeau, and Henry Leonard Bilodeau on December 27th 1979.

Arrangements by the Brown-McClay Funeral Home on 48 South Maple Street in Vergennes, Vt.
