The son of Isaac and Elizabeth Mackey Casey, he was born in South Carolina. He immigrated across the Cumberland Gap into pioneer country. Later, his father brought the rest of the family.
First wife was Amy Barker. They married at Cave-in-Rock, IL.
He settle in Jefferson Co, IL in 1817.
About 1836 he moved to northern IL but the next year moved back to Jefferson Co.
Amy died 1846; he m 2nd Aug 13, 1850 to Mary Shelton, they had one son, Newton.
Billy was a minister, and for a long time he was also the richest man in the county. Some believed he had large sums of money buried when he died that will never be found. He was enterprising and industrious. According to family recollections, he was a compound of noble and generous qualities and passions dark and bitter when aroused.

Squire William Casey was a farmer by occupation and at one time was considered the wealthiest man in Jefferson County, donating the ground on which Mt. Vernon was built. He held the offices of Commissioner and Justice of the Peace. "
