STATESBORO, Ga. — Mrs. Esther Barnes Best, age 88, died Thursday evening at Brown's Health and Rehabilitation. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was employed with Woolworth Department Store for many years, retiring and working part-time with J&J Fabrics. Most of her time was spent as a homemaker, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Best was the oldest living member of the Nevils Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. Barnes and Hannah Malissa Hendrix Barnes; her husband, Olin Morris Best; three brothers, Remer Barnes, Pierce Barnes and Wesley Barnes; and a sister, Irene Lanier.

Surviving are a daughter, Janell Best Akins of Statesboro; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell and Glenda Best of Statesboro, Wayne and Sally Best of Guyton and Alan and Debra Best of Twin City; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Doris Best of Savannah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Jack Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Nevils Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
