She was born in Harrison Co., Virginia (now WV), daughter of Moses Ellsworth, Jr. and Mary Magdalena Bumgardner Ellsworth. Her family migrated to Warren County, Ohio in 1805 where they first settled on Todd's Fork (near present day Clarksville, became Clinton Co. in 1810).

In Warren County, Ohio on 6 December 1806, Anna married Jeremiah Botkin, he being of lawful age and consent given by her father. Record of marriage is in Warren Co., Ohio. Their first child was born here. About two year later they removed to Champaign County, Ohio along with the Ellsworths and others. This area became part of Clark County in 1818.

Anna and Jeremiah were parents of nine children: Jesse, Levi Sanford, Ruhamah, Margaret, Amos H., Moses Ellsworth, George W., Anna, and William Innis. Children believed to be in order of birth.
