Jeremiah Botkin was born in Harrison County, (West) Virginia on October 31, 1784, son of Charles and Jemima (Curl) Bodkin.

He married Anna "Nancy" Ellsworth, daughter of Moses and Mary (Bumgardner) Ellsworth, in Warren County, Ohio, on December 6, 1806.

They came to present day Clark County, Ohio in 1808, before that county was formed in 1818, having stopped in the settlement on Todd's Fork (with Davissons, Curls, and many other Virginia neighbors) first.

Nine children are recorded for them.
