Melvin Barry
Melvin Francis Barry, 76, of New London, died Friday Dec. 24, 2004, at his home in New London.
Born July 10, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of Leo and Amelia Mason Barry. On June 28, 1953, he married Marie Utt in Burlington.
Mr. Barry was employed at Wal-Mart Distributing for 10 years, at Burkhart's Hardware in New London for 20 years and at IAAP for 7 years.
He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in West Burlington and Burlington High School. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of New London VFW, Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Burlington for 56 years and served on the New London City Council for several years. He was a Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels, tinkering in the shop, bowling, golf and watching marching bands.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Amy Overton and Sara Francy, both of Mount Pleasant; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother and two half brothers.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Barry will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Rod Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.
A memorial has been established for Hospice of Central Iowa.

The funeral service for Mr. Melvin F. Barry, 76, of New London, who died Dec. 24, 2004, will be held this morning at 11:00 a.m. at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Rod Cooper will officiate. Interment will be in Burge Cemetery, New London. A memorial has been established for Hospice of Central Iowa.
