She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church for over 69 years and a member of the United Methodist Women where she was very active in the Sunday School program. She was a busy "b" with her hobbies that included bunco, bingo, bridge, and bowling (she competed in this sport until age 85).
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 68 years, Lester Muriel Akin. She is survived by her daughter, LaCretia Akin McReynolds and husband Bob of Houston; son, John Lester Akin and wife Janell; son Alton Banks Akin and wife Charlin, all of Stockdale; grandsons, Scott Akin and wife Barbara, Shane Akin and wife Anna, Blaine Akin and wife Meghan, Joshua Cotter and wife Jenna; granddaughters, Carrie McCleery and husband Sam, Stephanie Jones and husband Marc, Teri Wolff and husband Ray; sisters, Lena M. Pinckney and Banksie Bryan. In addition, she had 15 great- grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Published by Finch Funeral Home, January 3, 2013.
