COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Beatrice Highsmith Hellams will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 8-9 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to WMHK at Columbia International University.
Mrs. Hellams died Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Born in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late Ollie and Alwilda Highsmith. A graduate of Presbyterian College, she was an educator, serving both as a classroom teacher and principal in public and private schools in Kentucky and South Carolina for over 30 years. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and church worker at Southside Baptist Church. She served in a supportive role to her husband in several other pastoral positions to include Eau Claire Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Rev. W. Lloyd Hellams; son, Dr. Wilton Hellams; daughter-in-law, Roberta; grandchildren, Jeremy and Emily Hellams, all of Columbia.
