COLUMBIA - Graveside service for Rev. Dr. W. Lloyd Hellams Sr., 82, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church or to Eau Claire Baptist Church. Visitation will be this evening from 7-9 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Rev. Hellams, husband of the late Beatrice Highsmith Hellams, died Saturday, September 13, 2003. Born in Hickory Tavern, Laurens Co., he was a son of the late John Robert and Emma Stone Hellams. He was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College, Furman University, Southern Theological Seminary and graduate school and Rice University. For most of his career, he served as pastor of Southside Baptist Church and as interim pastor of Eau Claire Baptist Church. He served on the faculty at Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and on the Board of Trustees at North Greenville Junior College, Furman University and Baptist College of Charleston. He also served as an officer of the South Carolina Southern Baptist Convention and member of Pacific Masonic Lodge #325.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Wilton L. and Roberta Hellams of Columbia and grandchildren, Jeremy Hellams and Emily Hellams.
