Russell was born on June 30, 1930, in New Liberty, Iowa, the son of Charles F. and Margaret (Rohlfs) Ewoldt. He was united in marriage to Carol Breckling on January 14, 1956, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Davenport. Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea.
Russell worked at Farmall for 22 years retiring in 1985. After retirement he worked for Builders Cement in Davenport for several years. Russell's passion was stock car racing. He raced and owned cars from 1960 until 1973 and was an avid NASCAR fan until the end.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Rita (Paul) Schroeder; granddaughter, Ashley Wiechman; sister, Henrietta (Robert) Poppe; sister-in-law, Karen (Robert) Spring; numerous nieces and nephews.
