Funeral services for Melba Rose Austin, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Golden, pastor of First Baptist Church of Denver City, officiating.

Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Austin died at 12:58 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Covenant Hospital Plainview.

She was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Kernes, the daughter of Homer and Ethel Ragland. She grew up in Dimmitt where she attended schools. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, the Red Hat Ladies Society, and had worked as a cook at the high school cafeteria and senior citizens center. She was a resident of Westridge Manor.

On Aug. 5, 1949, she married James Clifford Austin in Hereford. He died March 19, 2002.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cliffa and Doug Bryan of Gloomfield, N.M., Debbie and Mike Belk of Plainview and Vickie Stewart of Plainview; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Elaine Austin of Lockney; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Sandy Ragland of Odessa; a sister-in-law, Norma Ragland of Lockney; one sister, Billie Schacher of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
