Cherry Grove was another name used in this part of the county; a Cherry Grove church was active at one time. After the town of Anderson was established in 1879, the cemetery, along with all its other names, was sometimes called the Anderson Cemetery. The name Parsley was derived from Alexander Parsley who lived from 1820 to 1874. James Parsley and Laura, husband and wife, sold the ground to the trustees of Sidney Township on September 10 1884, for $25 with the admonition: "to be used for the express purpose of a burial ground and to be used for no other purpose."
