Directions:
From the center of town take South Street 1.9 miles. There is no sign. There is a larger logging road on the right about 10-15 yards before the path. Driving by, the path will be on your right and for most of the year appears more like a deer run than as a pathway. If you reach the little golf course on your right, you have gone too far. There is a stone wall to your left shortly after entering the path. Follow the stone wall for approximately 1/10 mile. The ground is boggy, moss covered and uneven. The cemetery is on your left.
If you are tempted to walk in from the logging road, you can stand in the clearing and look right at the cemetery but not see it for the undergrowth and trees.
The cemetery is surrounded by trees. There is no grass. The ground is covered with moss. There is a three rail, iron fence with gate surrounding the cemetery. A rock keeps the gate closed. Please replace the rock when you leave.
Except for the three markers facing west, the remaining twelve markers face east. There are more burials than listed from evidence of broken bases and smaller, illegible stones.
The cemetery was started in 1817 with the burial of Persis Torrey. It was formally recognized as a cemetery in 1838 with the burial of Jared Engram. The last burial was Francis Torrey in 1944.
MACRIS (CSF 809)calls it Ingraham-Torrey.
Lambert calls it Torrey Cemetery, aka Engram Cemetery
Corbin calls it the Engram Burying Ground in his 1934 transcription
Lederle calls it the Private Cemetery on Huntington Road in her 1940 transcription and the Private Cemetery (Old Huntington Road) in her 1962 transcription
