The following story emerged: The land belonging to James T. Pattison was inherited by his sons and daughter. The Frank Pattison family had been living in the home with his parents before their deaths, and he was given the land where the cemetery was located. Frank Pattison had died and his wife Lucy had remarried a Mr. Stocking. She informed Mr. Dewitt that the land now belonged to her, and not another person was to be buried in the cemetery.
Mr. Pattison allowed the burial of said Mr. Tom Kerr on a piece of land located on the Hempstead-Pattison Road about one-half mile north of the town of Pattison. Subsequently, in 1889 Mr. Pattison and his wife gave 4 3/4 acres of land in the same area for a burial ground for the citizens of Pattison and the surrounding community.
