A local funeral director states that this building was used to house the bodies of those who died during the winter months, before backhoes made digging frozen ground possible. At one time, graves had to be dug by hand, which was impossible in the winter in Ohio. Once the ground thawed, the graves were dug and the bodies interred. There are ventilation stacks in the earthen wall on the backside of this building.
