This is the Pioneer section of the Ridgely Community Cemetery - it in the NW corner of the grounds.

Three miles South of Edgerton, Missouri on Highway B. Non-profit cemetery, Incorportaed in 1911, the Pioneer Part was a gift to the cemetery by Captain Charles F. Chrisman, deeded in 1896. I Survey, 1909, Made by a railroad surveyor with the help of William S. Denney, when the New Addition was planned, and the entire cemetery was surveyed in preparation for the Incorporation, and gift to the community by Samuel J. Peterson in memory of his "Sainted Mother".

New Part, 1911 Four miles S of Edgerton, Missouri, on State Hwy. E. why this new addition was made. In 1896 Samuel J. Peterson attended the funeral of his father, Peter Hanson Peterson. The burial was in what is now called the pioneer part of the Ridgely cemetery. He was shocked at the condition of the cemetery, for it was fast going back to the wilderness. He decided to save it. In 1908 he bought the adjoining farm east of the old cemetery, then the surveying and labor started. The grounds were beautifully planned with the Old and New parts as one. Also the pioneer part was incorporated with the New Part and for 999 years.

In 1911 the incorporated Ridgely Community Cemetery was given to the community. Privately and in his heart, Samuel J. Peterson did this as a memorial to his sainted mother, Anna Eliza Glenn Peterson Akin.
