This cemetery is located on New River Gorge National Park and Preserve land and is accessible only by foot requiring a walking distance of approximately one mile one way. The trail is relatively flat however it is waterlogged. You will encounter briars as you attempt to navigate around pools of water. This trail follows along the border between the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve (on your right) and the Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (on the left).
Directions: In the nearby city of Mount Hope enter State Route 61 SOUTH also known as Mill Creek Road. Travel approximately one mile to Jack Furst Drive on the left. Jack Furst Drive is formerly known as Garden Grounds Road and may still appear as such on your map system. Travel 1.2 miles on Jack Furst Drive and you will find a road on your right that angles uphill. This road currently is unsigned but is named Maple Meadows Hoo Hoo Road. Travel Maple Meadows Hoo Hoo Road to the end bearing left at all intersections. There is public parking at the end of Maple Meadows Hoo Hoo Road provided by the National Park Service. A word of caution: the last several hundred yards of this road may be rutted and waterlogged as it was on the date of this visit. From the parking area the trail begins at the gate and is one mile.
At one mile you will find a directional cemetery sign indicating the cemetery is to the right. You have actually traveled beyond the cemetery.
In May 2001 the Fayette-Raleigh Genealogical Society published Volume 1 of Fayette County Cemetery Records. According to this work the cemetery was named Jack Martin Cemetery.
