Add PhotosArchived old info: This cemetery is located 7 miles west of Lebanon on Tucker's Gap Road, just north of where Tucker's Gap Road intersects with the N.C.C. Railroad. It is not known at this time what the N.C.C. stands for or if the tracks still exist. This information came from page 303 in the book, "Tennessee Records: Tombstone Inscriptions and Manuscripts, Historical and Biographical" by Jeannette Acklen and published in 1976. But the information included in the book was recorded many years before 1976. The cemetery was probably originally located on land owned by James Harvey Peyton. His wife, Nancy McFarland Peyton, inherited it after James' death in 1852. Nancy married a second time to William Major. The theory on the name of the cemetery is that because Nancy was "Mrs. Major" for more than 30 years, people simply called the cemetery "Major Graveyard" even though there are no Major family members buried there. The tombstones for James & Nancy were thought to exist at one time, but by 1976 were no longer there.
New info: In 2024 this graveyard was found by new property owners, it is actually off Leeville Pike north of Tuckers Gap Road near where the two roads meet, on private property once owned by the Peyton family, and the three headstones have been located.
