Add PhotosThe known burial records are all for Port Toulouse, however, the town went through the following settlements:
Santo Pedro – 1500's to early 1600's, Portuguese settlement, abandoned
Saint-Pierre – 1630's to 1669, French settlement, abandoned
Port Toulouse – 1713 to 1758, Acadian settlement, along with Port Toulouse
Saint Peter's – 1758 to 1768, Acadian settlement under British rule, abandoned
Port Toulouse included a good portion of present day St. Peter's Canal National Historic Site and a large portion Battery Provincial Park east of the canal. Prior to 1869, the fort ruins were visible however they were partially destroyed when the canal was built. The ruins were completely destroyed by 1876, when the lockmaster's house was built.
A detailed map of Port Toulouse from 1731 shows a village of buildings, garden plots in a line along the shore, as well as the priest's house and a cemetery. There were small clusters of buildings and a brickyard west of what is now St. Peter's Canal.
Nothing remains of the cemetery today.
