Add PhotosWhen information from grave markers was recorded Nov 2005 by Dot Harcum, it was a very badly overgrown area (and over the years has only gotten worse), though near cultivated land. Had it not been for Selma Johnson Lanier, a granddaughter of Junius Wilson Johnson and Mariah Jane Davis, through their son Milton Junius Johnson and Eula Mae Davis, it could easily have been overlooked!
There were only 2 markers located which were readable, a Military marker for Levi Newbern Johnson and a joint marker for Junius Wilson Johnson with both of his wives, Mariah Jane Davis Johnson and Martha Ann Wester Johnson.
In addition there were 5 adult cement slabs with nothing to indicate the individuals buried there. According to Selma, there were Davises buried in this cemetery, though she did not remember who they were. Possibly relatives of her mother, Eula Mae Davis Johnson or her grandmother, Mariah Jane Davis Johnson.
Selma (1923-2015) also indicated she remembered this being a fairly large, well cared for cemetery and in addition to cement slabs and stone markers there were lots of grave houses that are now lost due to time and the elements.
How unfortunate! Another final resting place for individuals known only to God!
