Add PhotosThe Prince Street Moravian Graveyard was in use from 1746 through 1917, when the land was redeveloped for a Post Office and the remains moved to Greenwood Cemetery.
"In the year 1746, Lots 212 and 213, situated on the east side of Prince Street, near Chestnut Street, were donated by James Hamilton, Esq., to the Moravian Church for burial purposes. The grounds were used for many years, and until the Lancaster City [1848] and Woodward Hill [1852] Cemeteries were laid out for public use, since which time but few funerals have been made there."
Despite Hamilton's gift of lots on Prince Street, the Moravian congregation bought lots at 30 W. Orange Street, where their church stood from 1746 -1967. There was never a graveyard on Orange Street.
