In the early years of this cemetery , it was called
Cherry Grove, later called North Caney. When the New Cherry Grove cemetery was started in the 1950's. Some people stopped burying in the North Caney Cemetery. To get to it now , you have to walk through a pasture . Cemetery is in very bad shape.
Update: this cemetery is about 200 yards off the road in curve in the road before you come to Cherry Grove Baptist Church. It has a chain link fence . A few headstones . A granite sign which says North Caney Cemetery founded in 1899 in loving memory of 36 names listed .
If you look up North Caney cemetery. It to was indexed by June Tuck in 2004. This is the Cemetery next to the Cherry Grove Baptist Church . She states. I call this the New Cherry Grove because North Caney Cemetery was at one time called Cherry Grove , later changed to North Caney.
Early death records show proof of this. The story goes that the old. Cherry Grove Cemetery got the name from the wild cherry trees that use to grow in the area. Today you have a new Cherry Grove Baptist Church and beside it is the new Cherry Grove Cemetery.
Note: The Cherry Grove Baptist Church was organized in 1885. The present building was dedicated Nov 20,1994. The Cemetery next to it , is called North Caney and Cherry Grove Cemetery according to death certificates and headstones . And post on find a grave.
