Elder Henry McElmurry was the organizer and first pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Zion, AR. He was born and grew up in Kentucky. In the mid-1820's he and his family moved to Wayne County , Missouri where he organized and/or pastored in several United Baptist Churches. He came to Arkansas in 1844 as a missionary. Besides the Antioch Church, Henry helped with the organization of the First Baptist Church in Batesville, and did mission work in the upper White River area besides holding many other church positions. His quarterly report of December 1850, reads as follows: "Traveled 888 miles (on foot and horseback); visited 70 churches; delivered 25 sermons; six public addresses on the subject of Missions; and made two baptisms in the Antioch Church." Henry lived near the Hamm community where he, his wife, Nancy, son, Andrew, and Andrew's wife Elizabeth are buried in a field across from the old Hamm Schoolhouse.
