Add PhotosTo reach this cemetery, drive out North 18th Street (aka CR 210) in Lanett, Alabama, to Sardis Church. A county map will be useful. From the church, you will approach a dirt road, which leads to to LaFayette, Alabama. The cemetery is several miles from Sardis Church, and is about 1/2 mile off the dirt road; and, most likely, will require assistance to find it. Several years ago, Robert Phillips cleared the cemetery and a path to it, for Mrs. Sarah Nesbitt of Birmingham, Alabama, a descendant of the family. Current status of the cemetery is unknown as of this date (Jan 2013).
At the time the cemetery was surveyed, only three graves were marked with names. There were two graves with rock walls around them. Other graves were nearly invisible, and a tree grew through one. Many other graves nearby were marked by field stones, and it has been suggested that those were the graves of former slaves.
