Bartlett Cemetery
Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA
According to the landowners (Edwin and Patricia Mulvay), Dr. Bartlett was a prominent "social diseases" doctor whose practice attracted patients from New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Patients would come into the Pennsboro train depot (7.5 miles to the southeast) then go to the livery, where a driverless horse and carriage would be waiting. The horse is said to have automatically taken patients to Dr. Bartlett's house, then taken them back to the Pennsboro livery after their treatment. Mr. Mulvay said that he has been told many times that this story is true. Mr. Mulvay also reported that the doctor's house is located at the base of the hill below the cemetery and has recently collapsed. The grandparents of the current landowners were contemporaries of the Bartlett family and lived on land owner by Dr. Bartlett. The Mulvays recently found a book in their home which was either written by or about Dr. Bartlett.
