Dr. Herman H. Long was president of Talladega College from 1965 until his death in 1976. While presiding at Talladega College he also served as president of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) during 1970-1975. An iconic motto adopted by the UNCF in 1972 was "A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste".
