Iosifo-Georgievskaya church was located at the entrance to the palace of the Great Duke Nikolay Konstantinovich Romanov. It was consecrated on December 22, 1868, thereby becoming the first Orthodox church in Tashkent.
The original building was made of raw brick. In 1877 the church was reconstructed by the engineer Shavrov under the project of architect N.F. Ulyanov. In fact, a new building was built. The church, which housed up to 800 parishioners, had a three-tier bell tower and an iconostasis. Until 1893 it was under the jurisdiction of the military department. In March 1909 it received the status of a cathedral.
In 1931 the cathedral was closed, after which the building was used as the auditorium of the puppet theater. In 1995 it was demolished.
