This is the small family cemetery dedicated by Pierre Goudeau in January 1838, and consecrated by Father Flavius Henri Rossi of Opelousas, for the use of the Goudeau family. The record of that dedication was filed in the Avoyelles Parish courthouse. In the cemetery, there are a few visible brick tombs, including that of Julien Jules Goudeau I (1805-1852), son of Pierre Goudeau and Eugenie Goudeau. As this cemetery is on the property where Pierre Goudeau and his son, Julien Jules Goudeau I, had their plantation, the oldest grave may date to the first or second decade of the 19th century. Antoine Goudeau I died here about 1809, and there were several Goudeau family deaths prior to 1838. They may have been the reason for the dedication of this family cemetery. Antoine Goudeau I, born about 1737, was the first member of the Goudeau family to settle here, at Bayou Rouge Prairie, moving his family here from the Opelousas area about 1792. In 1799, Antoine Goudeau's daughter, Eugenie Goudeau, married her cousin, Pierre Goudeau, son of Pierre Michel Goudeau, brother of Antoine Goudeau I. After their marriage, Pierre and Eugenie Goudeau remained and raised their family here at Bayou Rouge Prairie. Julien Jules Goudeau I was the second child born to Pierre and Eugenie Goudeau. On 8 Jan 1828, Julien married Marceline Decuir at the church of Notre Dame de Mont Carmel at Hydropolis. They had ten children. The tomb of Julien Jules Goudeau is marked with a large marble tombstone that bears the names of his wife and ten children. The Goudeau plantation home stood in the middle of the field directly southwest of the location of this cemetery, and is marked today by a large grove of trees in the middle of the field just south of the cemetery.
