Add PhotosThe North Havre Lutheran Church was one of three churches of immigrant Lutheran homesteaders, most of them from Norway, formed in the area between 1910 and 1914. The church was built in 1912 eight miles north of Havre on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Knut Kjorli and the plot that holds the church and its cemetery lies in the N.E. corner of Section 6, Township 33, Range 16. In its first decade, all the church records - its constitution, by-laws, and minutes - were written in Norwegian and its services were conducted in that language. The church was dedicated on the same day its first conformation class was confirmed, June 8, 1913.
The initial structure was raised by volunteer labor and measured 16 x 24 feet. In 1924, a 16 x 16 foot addition with an 8 x 9 foot entry completed the structure. In 1947, the building was sold to the Goldstone Lutheran Church near Rudyard but in 1953 it was destroyed in a windstorm. Those buried in its graveyard were moved to Highland Cemetery in Havre.
