Eshleman Graveyard
Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA
The stones were reset at some point before April 1981 when they were read by Martha J. & Gerald S. Hossler and included in vol. 24 of "Recorded Lancaster County Cemetery Inscriptions," edited by A. Hunter Rineer, at the Lancaster County Historical Society.
It is enclosed by an iron fence and is well maintained by the neighbors in exchange for some snow plowing by the farm residents to the east of the property.
This is one of three Eshelman/Eshleman graveyards in the area.
A second graveyard, referred to in Findagrave as the "Henry Eshelman Farm Cemetery" was copied by N. S. Zug on Aug. 13, 1922, and was entered into vol. 20 of the "Recorded Lancaster County Cemetery Inscriptions." At that time it was described as being near Elizabethtown in Mount Joy Township. Seven stones, in all, were transcribed. It has long been assumed that these seven gravestones were part of the third cemetery listed below, the Werner Cemetery. However, there is no overlap in the transcriptions and they are definitely separate.
The Henrich Eshleman cemetery has not yet been located. There used to be another little graveyard behind the Eshleman graveyard on Shaeffer Rd. as shown on old atlases. However, that graveyard has been destroyed.
The third nearby Eshelman/Eshelman graveyard is generally referred to as the Werner Cemetery because it has but three Eshelman gravestones. It is located west of Cold Spring Road in Rapho Township.
