Add PhotosThe burial ground dates back to the establishment of Marlborough's town poor farm about 1821 and was probably used prior to that date by the Hunter family as their family burial place. They were the original owners of the farm. The town of Marlborough buried their paupers there until 1866 when the Town of Hudson was incorporated. Hudson purchased the farm and continued the administration as their "Pauper Establishment" until 1942, at that time, the poor farm system was discontinued and the property was conveyed to the King family.
Although no-one has been buried in this cemetery in living memory, it is believed that 40 to 50 of the town's poor and unfortunate have been interred there, including the remains of several Revolutionary War veterans.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as HUD. 800.
According to the MACRIS file the cemetery was about 1/8 acre in size. There is NO evidence of any grave markers or exterior boundary. There are NO records of who was buried here. GPS is where the cemetery is suspected to be according to old deeds.
