Auckland Council, Auckland, New Zealand
Located on Motuihe Island's Cemetery Point
(which is on the tip of the island's north end)
Cemetery established 1874

Variation2: H.M.S. "Tamaki" (during WWI and WWII)

The island is between Motutapu and Waiheke Island. It has beautiful beaches, an historic olive grove, and two known pa: one at Mangoparerua and one at Te Tumurae.
The island was purchased by the New Zealand government in 1873 for use as a quarantine station. It was used as an internment camp during the 1914-1918 War. There are two Commonwealth burials from that time.
In 1940 there was insufficient land at Devonport for both a Naval base and a training establishment and by the end of the year Royal New Zealand Navy received Cabinet approval for occupation of the old quarantine station on Motuihe Island in the Hauraki Gulf. On 14 January 1941 the station was commissioned as HMS Tamaki and served as a training facility until December 2000.
