Add PhotosThis cemetery is referred to by several different names, the most common being "Miller Cemetery", found in death notices, obituaries, and death certificates. It is called "Wright Cemetery" on a Macon County Cemetery map, and shown on the 2006 Narrows Twp plat map as the "Walker-Miller" cemetery.
The "Wright" name may come from the 1912 burial of Winnie Wright, a well-known and well-liked former slave of Lafayette F Wright
The "Walker" name may come from the Burl Walker family who owned land here. The burial sites of Burl's wife, Kissiah, and daughter, Malinda, are unknown at this time.
The "Miller" name comes from John William and Maria C (Zollman) Miller, both of Germany, who owned this land on the 1875 plat. John W Miller likely died between 1880 and 1897 when the plat map shows this land being owned by Mrs. M. C. Miller. Her obituary, found in the Sept 21, 1900 Macon Republican, gives her death date as September 14, 1900 at age 66y 11m 4d, but does not provide the burial site. She and her husband are likely buried here, as no other burial site has been found. Some of the children and other descendants are buried in the nearby Friendship Cemetery. One son, Thomas E Miller, is shown on the 1918 and 1930 plats as owning this land.
