The Sisters of the Divine Redeemer (Sorores a Divino Redemptore, SDR) (Isteni Megváltóról Nevezett Nővérek, www.megvaltosnoverek.hu) is a Roman Catholic women's religious order. Élisabeth Eppinger, the first of eleven children born to a poor farm family, founded the order in Niederbronn-les-Bains, Alsace, France in 1849. The order established a convent in Sopron, Hungary in 1863 to undertake physical and spiritual care in the homes of orphaned children, of the poor, of the sick, and of the elderly. In 1912, Father Kalman Kovats (né Kovács; cf. Find A Grave Memorial# 146516238), pastor of St. Stephen's Magyar Roman Catholic Church in McKeesport, invited the sisters to help him in the care of the Hungarian families in the area. Four sisters arrived from Sopron and travelled from home to home in the mining and industrial districts to instruct groups of children in religion and in Hungarian culture, as well as to help the sick, the elderly, and the needy. The Motherhouse in Elizabeth was established in 1926 and grew rapidly. Now worldwide, the order's motto is "De fontibus salvatoris".
