The land that the cemetery resides in originally belonged to Jonathan Miller, after his death it became the property of his son Francis Miller. When Francis died Jonathan D Miller (presumed to be the son of Francis) acquired the land. Jonathan D Miller died in 1876, and J.R. Gause was appointed executor of the estate. Charles Gause, brother of J.R. Gause, applied to the court for the property, claiming Jonathan D. Miller had sold the land to him, and the court awarded him the property. Hence, the name Miller-Gause Cemetery.
Besides the marked grave of Jonathan Miller, his wife Mary occupies and unmarked site. According to the survey done 2001-2003- Approximately 15 depressions, aligned in
2-3 rows are also found at the site. This indicates that besides the unmarked grave of Mary (Jonathan's wife) there are 14 other unmarked graves at this site.
