Name: Also known as Great Gardens (Temple) Cemetery and Rose Street Jewish Cemetery
Location: Currently the location of Temple Meads Train Station
Shown on Bristol Town Plan 1884-5, open from Brook Court and enclosed by buildings on Rose Street.
History:
1811, Lazarus Jacobs, Bristol glassmaker, set aside part of his land on Rose Street as a private burial ground for his family.
1830, land was purchased by Moses Abraham for private burials; mentioned in his 1855 Will as passed to his sons Abraham, John, and Joseph Abraham (later mayor of Bristol).
1913, Great Western Railway purchased the land to expand Temple Meads Station.
In September 1827, 27 graves and monuments (12 identified) were reinterred in Ridgeway Jewish Cemetery (#2222008) in the area near the Chapel building, Block C Rows 13-15.
Among the graves identified were Isaac Jacobs son of Lazarus Jacobs, and Moses Abraham and family members.
